About her work.

Clare has been labelled by London galleries as a ‘Contemporary Scottish Colourist’. Her work is largely about the balance and relationship between the colour she observes in her environment and her unique interpretation of that visual stimulus. She uses colour as a vehicle to express the emotions and reactions she has to a particular event or happening.
For Clare, still life is the foundation of her creative process. Through the careful selection of still life objects, she permits herself the freedom to experiment with colour, perspective and composition. Intent on maintaining honesty and integrity to the subject matter; she creates a sense of movement and magic in otherwise inanimate and ordinary objects. This is also true of her many vibrant and sun-drenched landscape paintings.
Clare also has a fascination with allegorical images, symbolism and ancient mythology. Her work explores how these concepts and narratives have been interpretated and conveyed throughout history. Through her exploration of this topic, she is captivated, liberated and inspired to actualise works that embrace and convey the enchantment she perceives when investigating this subject matter.
